CNN is a terminal of despair

This afternoon CNN spent the better part of three hours enveloped in cnnamatic trauma!

Naturally the headline was about a Trump, this time Robert Jr.

Breaking News cnnamatically delivered the traumatic story of  he, Trump the younger, who had met with a Russian person(diplomat, lawyer????) who cares, he was Russian.  And Robert Jr.  met with this Russian because he had been promised information about Hiliary Clinton.

I was watching this at the gym so I didn’t catch all of the incredible cnnamatic details but I gathered the anchors and the quickly assembled  panel of anti-trumpers were delivering the kind of rhetoric expected of this WKRP knock-off.  “More proof that Russia defeated Hiliary, and in so doing delivered to the people of the republic the ‘unbelievable.’ ”

The implications of course were obvious to the cnnamatically consumed anchors–information about Hiliary would mean “quid pro quo”.  We give you information about Hiliary and you will do something for us, the Russians, da?

I suppose it never occurred to the cnnamatically consumed that this exchange would follow the same QPQ no matter who Robert Jr. met with.  Yes, BUT good heavens don’t you see he met with a Russian Lawyer!!!!!!

The story reminded me of the parallel silliness that consumed the Warren Commission.

Among the thousands of exhibits included to show the American people that no stone was left unturned and no exhibit left on the editing floor to support the Commission’s finding, was an x-ray of Lee Harvey Oswald’s mother’s teeth—-leading Mark Lane, an early critic of the Warren Commission to observe: “that exhibit would have been irrelevant even if Lee Oswald had bitten the President to death.”

CNN is so consumed by it’s anger over results of the election which is almost nine months old that it has lost all relevance and has descended into a pit of despair.

BEYOND BELIEF……#26

It’s been a year since we last posted.  #25 was about the lack of honest, common sense oversight by the CRTC, the Canadian equivalent to the Federal Communications commission in the United States.

In the intervening 12 months not much has changed regarding CRTC oversight but the world has undergone a cataclysmic redo.

Hilary was Trumped.  Kim is trying to get his short fingers around America’s neck and the Democrats are wandering around Capitol Hill in a state of OZ.

CNN has switched from being the CLINTON NEWS NETWORK to an updated version of WKRP.  It’s a fact that Les Nessman was more balanced than Wolf Blitzer, and the KRP panels were more credible and far less strident and unbalanced.

In fact CNN has become the poster child for those media outlets who embrace the telling and re-telling of the Anti-Trumps.  In a lifetime of  media experience I  have never witnessed such blatant unprofessional story telling by the so-called legitimate press!  If it was just Fake News we had to contend with that’s easily handled, rather it’s the drumbeat of propaganda being passed off as the REAL story.  Propaganda dressed up as REAL news is designed to elicit from the viewer/reader strident emotionalism.  Unfortunately for America it reaches and motivates the simple-minded.

The fact is you don’t have to fake the news, there are enough stories that are real honest brain busters that make you wish they were fake.

Example one:  Paul Ryan, whose inability to gather together enough votes in the House of Representatives from among the majority members of his own party to pass legislation relating to a made in America health plan has delivered the unexpected.  He has issued an order to female members of the Media covering the House that they MAY NOT come to news “briefings” in sleeveless dresses and tops.  A JOKE?  Apparently not!!!

Example two: in the great State of Arkansas, once ruled by the Clintons for a couple of decades a law has just been passed that states a woman, “…who has been Raped must seek the permission of  the Rapist before she can have an abortion.”  A JOKE?  Definitely NOT!!!

The Blog rests:  who needs Fake news when you have the examples cited that ..”make you wish they were fake.”
Surely they can’t be real?  Surely they must have originated in some third world nation of despots and misogyny.

When the Watchman sleepeth-Holiday’s Journal #25

Broadcasting in Canada was for years considered a privilege, a Trust, after all the airwaves are there for the benefit of all the people and to help maintain fairness and decency on the public airwaves through the years oversight was provided by first by, the CBC(a conflict); then the Board of Broadcast Governors(BBG)-a( loose aggregation-of political appointees) and finally the CRTC, today’s referee!

My broadcasting career began in the era of the BBG.  It was loaded with political appointees and did not provide good, effective oversight.

It operated in a state of somnolence.  Television was an infant but radio was a grown-up and as such attracted some very shrewd owners who were miles ahead of the BBG.  One day, probably over a scotch and soda two major media owners with the connivance of a Senator hatched a plot whereby they would enter the Toronto Television market via Barrie.  The transmitter would be in Barrie but the programming would be Toronto-centric!

Fortunately, the plot was foiled by a sharp-eyed Globe and Mail reporter.  The BBG said it was astonished.  That was in the 1960’s a decade that would see the BBG consigned to the dustbin of history and the arrival of a new sheriff,  with a promise to do right as a trustee of the public airwaves.

Obviously, administering the Broadcasting Act in the 50’s and 60’s was no job for old men and this inducement-prone posse was replaced by the Canadian Radio-television Commission, commonly referred to as “the commission.”   With advent of cable, satellites etc. Telecommunications was added in the title but Canada isn’t a country where acronyms accurately reflect titles, so it remains the CRTC!

As I recall the debut of this new bureaucracy was impressive.  It ushered itself in with alacrity and strict governance.

Pierre Juneau was not a Chairman to be trifled with and people like Ted Rogers, one of the broadcasting newbies with plans for an empire, quickly came to heed the arrival of the new regime.

Rogers, who in the early 70’s owned two radio stations in Toronto was called on the CRTC carpet for promise-breaking.

As a licensee he was cited for violating commitments made in his Promise of Performance that coincided with the granting of a name change to one of his radio stations-CHFI-AM to CFTR.  The TR standing for Ted Rogers or Toronto Radio take your pick.

It was Roger’s position that his failure to meet the news commitment he made was a numerical mistake and if the CRTC’s numbers were different than his then he would accept the Commission’s and they could all put it down to a mistake!

But Commission Counsel turned aside Ted’s claim, saying  “no Mr. Rogers it is not a mistake, it’s FRAUD.  You could have heard a pin drop in the Hearing room and the usually unshakable Ted Rogers was gob-smacked and that was a couple of decades before “gob-smacked” became part of the lexicon!   I’m sure that at that moment  he didn’t have to look hard  to visualize the plans for his empire meeting the same fate as the late, not so great BBG.  This dramatic moment in the nation’s capital on that cold day in the fall of 1972 clearly demonstrated CRTC plans to bring discipline to an undisciplined Broadcasting Universe.

Given only an  18 month extension of his Broadcasting license instead of the usual five years and thankful the CRTC didn’t cancel his license altogether Ted went to work.  The ensuing year and a half began the most exciting era in Radio broadcasting.  News, clearly a major concern of the Commission took centre stage in Toronto and across the country.  Competition intensified, scores of jobs were created in all aspects of Broadcasting.  Music programming which to that point was a copy of the American model, was forced to become far more creative when the CRTC imposed the 30% Canadian requirement on practically all music played on radio!  Owners chaffed under Juneau’s CRTC but they all made money.  Despite complaints not one radio license was mailed back to the CRTC!  Ted Rogers got his empire, so did Allan Waters along with others and Canadians were well served by the diversification of programming motivated by the highly competitive climate under the watchful eye of the New Sheriff.  But nothing lasts forever!

Fast-forward to 2015.  AJ (after Juneau) we watched a blizzard of Chairs preside over the emasculation of the CRTC and suborn the pillaging of  Radio and Television broadcasting in this country.  Confounded by new technology and its own pathetic leadership the CRTC has been run roughshod by the Media Mogles.

The tragedy is that ownership of those precious airwaves not longer rests with the people but with the shareholders of Bell, Rogers, Shaw.

Today, promises made by the Media beneficiaries of CRTC largesse have no value.  The job prospects in the industry are diminishing and the pay is absolutely pathetic.  My career path was nurtured by the need of broadcasters to employ more than warm bodies and that need was enhanced by competition.  Today there is no competition in the large markets because all the radio stations are owned by two or three conglomorates.  Today the employees of the Radio-Telelvision industry are in worse shape than major league baseball players were before Curt Flood and subsequent free agency.

They are slaves to a system that cannot and will not improve their status.  All of this is the result of CRTC failure to properly referee the public airwaves and temper the greed that has devoured and eroded what once was a good place.

The capitulation of the CRTC to the Media giants will not be reversed.  Bell, Rogers and Shaw run the show and what they want, they get!

This Regulatory agency, like the Competition Bureau reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. After giving away the store, today the CRTC occupies itself with silly questions like–“what does local news mean to you?  Is it important to you?” and preparing to entertain 12 applications for diversified programming and conducting meaningless surveys about whether Broadbands provide the data speed they claim.

Meanwhile, having been given the password to the safe, Bell, Rogers, Shaw et al  continue to empty it..

For instance the CRTC has finally enforced what Ted Rogers (under CRTC insistence) committed to doing thirty years ago, namely giving cable subscribers freedom in choosing the cable channels they want to pay for.  Today’s CRTC gives Media Mogols the right to dictate choice.  In fact(then) what the CRTC managed to get Rogers to agree to was this: that when computers make it possible cable subscribers will be able to choose the channels they want to watch–no exception.

We are not surprised that the CRTC version(2016) gives that right to the cable companies.

Of course Bell(probably) the meanest of all the cable operators has come up with a laughable BASIC grouping.  Rogers isn’t much better.

Shaw just got handed more CRTC largesse so we wouldn’t expect that company to give cable suckers an even break.

Short of a cataclysmic financial reckoning Canadians are never going to regain control of the Public Air waves.

On behalf of their shareholders, Bell, Rogers, Shaw  devoured our birthright, under the sleeping beauty we call, the Canadian, Radio, Television  and Telecommunications Commission!

Holiday’s Journal #23————Too BIG to jail!

Americans love slogans, in fact they may find them hypnotic–“Ask not what your country can do for you;  A day that will live in Infamy;  9/11;  weapons of mass destruction;  you have a friend in Pennsylvania—–”

You may remember when Bill Clinton was President and he became entangled with an Indonesian group of fast buck operators and it became apparent that if the rumours turned out to be true fast-talking, William could be heading to prison–an inventive American entrepreneur began selling T-shirts saying, “Billy Clinton: four years in the White House, Four years in the Big House.”

As it turned out  William didn’t have to worry because his friend with the goods on the President and the Indonesians Ron Brown, was killed in a plane crash that still hasn’t been fully explained or investigated.  But the T-Shirt reminds me of how quick the Americans glom onto catchy little phrases—like “Too big to Fail.” Now that did wonders for some of the Big banks and Big cars companies that were placed on the monetary critical list in 2008 and the dark, dreary days of the Great Recession that followed.  TOO BIG TO FAIL became a password repeated to Big Government honchos in Washington and to a dutiful band of reporters and columnists.  It was an impressive campaign.  It had a positive ring to it.  We cannot let General Motor s fail.  Think of the fall out.  The widows and orphans, and the pensions and the little people who depend on GM!  It is TOO BIG TOO FAIL.  Likewise the Big Banks.  Well, lets have a couple of the biggies fail just to tighten things up.  And they did.

And who were the proselytizers of the “too big to fail mantra?  Why the occupants of the executive suites at the Big Banks and the Big Car companies.

TOO BIG TO FAIL–worked wonders.    GM, Goldman-Sachs, Bank of America, and the others in their lofty positions of power did not fail.  They were bailed out by the taxpayers who were cajoled into the into believing the premise that , “TOO BIG TO FAIL”  was as American as Apple Pie.

Fast forward to October-November 2015 and the debut of another made in America slogan—“TOO BIG TO JAIL”—— Hillary Clinton is TOO BIG TO JAIL.

C’mon people, think!  She was a First Lady, a Senator, a Secretary of State and now she is running for PRESIDENT—So let the word go forth that in this day and age of uncertainty and Isis

that she must be allowed to obfuscate, misappropriate the truth, blame others for the massacre in Benghazi and to eventually enter the Oval office as the President of the United States because

she is TOO BIG TO JAIL!!  Can’t you Republicans see that? After all you were the dopes at the Benghazi Committee hearings who listened to Hilliary tell you that even though 600 requests were made by the Americans in Libya asking for more security  she,”Hiliary” never heard about these requests! Never heard about 600 requests. although I doubt there were that many, nevertheless The Devil herself could not have slipped that past the GOP dummies in that hearing room with more dash and daring.  Maybe they were jousting with the DEVIL herself?

Who but the GOP bozos would believe that Clinton, a dedicated micro-manager and the ultimate authority on security requests from those who worked in State sat in numerous meetings and NEVER was told by immediate staff that “her people” in Benghazi were begging for more security.  Never?  How many meetings? The Security buck stops where?  “Not with me said “Hiliary” not with me.  Some underling made the decisions repeatedly to deny additional security for the U.S. Ambassador and his staff in Benghazi, not me”  But Hillary didn’t have to deliver that unbelievable sentence because none of the Republican committee members pursued that line of questioning.  Inspite of their bumbling efforts to nail Mrs. Clinton the American people know she cannot be trusted, that she tells lies and lusts after mammon and leaves dead people in her wake.  The people of America know they are faced with a critical decision a year from now.  But that slogan just kind of rolls around and sits there—whisper it, “too big to jail,…..cogitate upon it, who else is there?  Donald Trump!?

So as diligent as the agents of the FBI may be  in their investigation  of Hillary Rodham Clinton, she is in the minds of the Democrats and half the voters of America, TOO BIG TO JAIL!  And that’s the slogan that will keep her campaign train on track.

Now we can better understand how dictators with nasty, criminal minds come to power in so-called banana republics like Syria, Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and most the counties in Africa.    And how they remain in the highest office in those respective countries. They are, TOO BIG TO JAIL.

It’s a sad commentary on the state of the STATES.  This proud country with more than 200 years of transcending tradition is on the brink of electing a woman with blood on her hands and revenge in her eyes, who wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped her in the face.

She will take power at the fork in the road and it doesn’t matter which one she takes because all of America will suffer.

Too Big To Jail is not just another slogan, it will answer the question–Is America still a nation of laws?  Or will it become the world’s biggest, newest Banana Republic?

CNN isn’t about REAL news!

Watching the current battle between CNN and Fox news has helped me understand why so many Americans live in ignorance of political realities.

During the past several weeks I`ve been fascinated by CNN`s decision to totally ignore Hillary Clinton’s battle to remain relevant in the face of legal challenges involving her failure to protect the secrets with which she was entrusted during her tenure as Secretary of State.  That battle includes a statement by a Judge appointed by her husband(when he was President) that she appears to be in violation of required procedures involving thousands of e-mails, many of which have been classified as secret. Some Top Secret. The procedures are mandated by US law.

It also includes the Judge`s order that Department of State co-operate with the FBI in finding e-mails that Hillary determined needed to be scrubbed off the e-mail server that she, after a delay of five months, allowed her people to give to the FBI.  The server was blank!  Did it take five months to deep six any politically embarrassing e-mails in her possession?

Fox news has been following the Hillary story, daily.  CNN has been ignoring the Hillary story, daily.  That decision by CNN to relegate Hillary’s e-mail server problems to file 13 was fine until her problems started showing up among polls in Iowa and New Hampshire.  There, voters who apparently are following her story on Fox and in the papers are giving her failing grades for trustworthiness and truthfulness.

The erosion on those two points also prompted friends of Vice president Joe Biden to start a draft Biden movement and his decision to go or not is days away and the CNN viewer has no idea why Joe Biden would want to challenge Hillary who they believe is the answer to a nation’s dream.  In fact CNN has studiously tried to avoid the Biden story.  It’s been mentioned, with no context.  So their viewers don’t even know if Biden is serious about challenging Hillary!

That means the CNN viewer is two stories behind and in danger of making that three BIG ones because if Hillary is charged, either with a misdemeanor or a felony, she is toast!

Now wouldn’t that be a shocker to those who have been relying on CNN to bring them all the news.

Of course, given her track record on the scandals of her previous 30 years(Whitewater, Flowers, Travelgate, Foster, Brown the list runs on) if someone must pay for failing to guard the secrets of the United States while she was Secretary of State it won’t be Hillary Clinton.  Who pays?  Friends and staff–many have fallen on their swords for Hillary, some involuntarily.

And there’s more. Because CNN isn’t reporting the Clinton difficulties their viewers will have missed half the currently running political circus.

CNN, the Clinton-Obama network has been running everything they can about The Donald.  Gleefully reporting his incredibly undisciplined run towards the White House!  Even Wolf Blitzer has been recruited to grind out the Donald Trump saga.

So if you are a devotee to CNN and will not watch FOX you are enjoying the major dump on Trump and totally ignorant about Hillary Clinton’s major migrane.  The FBI is investigating Hillary and her staff and you a faithful CNN viewer don’t even know about it!   The fact is Hillary has been on FOX far more than on CNN.

She has been busy laughing off, mouthing off and blaming others for her latest embrolio.

Will she get by this one?  Will Joe Biden rise to challenge?  Will CNN bring it’s listeners up-to-date??

I hate to say it but I must say it–STAY TUNED.

Assassinations are effective silencers

“In dictatorships like Russia and Argentina when individuals become troublesome for the administration they are shot dead. Assassinated! Or made to seem to have suicided.
In what we call democracies like Ontario they use character assassinations to discredit and silence dissenters.
—————
In Moscow where the Putin people put short-work to another challenge to the president for life they have marched in remembrance of Boris Nemtsov,  an effective orator who had been scoring political points against Vlad the Impaler.  It was around Boris Nemtsov that  many Russians felt they could rally  in support of a better life.   And then they buried him.
Naturally, the Putin police have been put on the job to find the killer and bring him to ‘justice’.  The aftermath is of little consequence because the problem, ‘Nemtsov’ has been solved.
————-
In Argentina, a prosecutor who was to testify against the president for alledged crimes against the people of that country, was found dead of a “self-inflicted” gunshot to the head the day before he was to reveal in court his charges which he claimed would put President Cristina Fernandez in irons. Instead he went to an early grave, his demise timely insofar as the President was concerned
putting an end to the critical challenge facing Ms.  Fernandez.  And, as they did in Moscow, thousands marched in Buenos Aires with tears and lighted candles.
Here again the immediate problem in a country famous for “helping dissenting citizens disappear”) was made to disappear.   The secrets of Alberto Nisman were buried with him.

Reminds one of the untimely, embarrassment saving journeys to an early grave of Ron Brown, a U-S cabinet secretary. He died the weekend before he was to testify to a committee of the Congress about Bill Clinton’s nefarious schemes. Plane crash. Or, George de Mohrenschildt who was on track to testify to members of the U-S House Select Committee on Assassinations. “Suicide.” Or Vince Foster whose “suicide” saved (BOTH) Bill and Hilary trouble. Dead men and women tell no tales.
The Mafia chieftain of New Orleans for years Carlos Marcello had a favorite saying, “three people can keep a secret, if the other two are dead!”
————
In Ontario, the provincial parliament was the scene of an assassination. Absent guns and bullets,  words were the weapons of choice.
During a debate on the floor of the parliament on the updated sex-education curriculum the Honorable member from Chatham-Kent-Essex  Rick Nichols said he thought “opting out of teaching students evolution “was not a bad idea.”  We  understand that in the political arena, debates on one subject can morph into irrelevance in the twinkling of an eye…..that’s how  “..teaching evolution” got thrown into this back-and-forth over Sex-Education.  This happened on a Tuesday.

Anyway by Thursday  we witnessed a full Liberal frontal assault on Rick Nichols.  Led by the deputy premier, and other members of the Kathleen Wynne government  they pounced to deflect

“a steady barrage” of questions from the Conservatives and the New Democrats about allegations of bribery in a recent by election in the city of Sudbury.  The scorn heaped on Rick Nichols came from not only the Liberals, but the New Democrats too!  But the Liberals took it a step farther showing off copies of the latest National Geographic called “war on science.”

Deputy premier Deb Mathews rose to say, “I really do want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Ontario PC party on being the cover story of the current issue of National Geographic magazine.  Rick Nichols was not in the House Thursday probably warned off by the Interim leader of the Tories.  But his absence didn’t diminish the ridicule.

Rick’s statement, ” I don’t believe in evolution”  inspired a cartoonist for Toronto Star to deliver a vicious frame that clearly suggested Rick Nichols was a crackpot.   Then, the crippling words of ridicule spooked the Conservative hierarchy into declaring Rick’s opinion about “evolution” were his and definitely NOT  representative of Ontario Tories.  Not much comfort there Rick!

While I am not surprised that a backbench Liberal might be allowed to vent spleen over the Conservative member’s statement, “…I don’t believe in evolution” , I would not expect the Deputy Premier and the Premier to fully embrace the blatant attempt to make Rick Nichols look and sound small and deranged and unworthy of his position as part of the political fabric, no matter the party.   His religious conviction became the reason for a scurrilous attack approved of  by the Premier, Kathleen Wynne.  And it came from someone who is the beneficiary of the pluralist society in which we live. It elected her to be our Chief Executive without so much as a whisper of dissent relative to her sexual orientation.  And you know many people have held their tongues because their religious beliefs do not coincide with her lifestyle.

And rather than suggest in no uncertain terms that Rick Nichols is absolutely entitled to ‘not believe in evolution’ because this is a society is tolerant of ALL,

she said, she was very surprised and “taken aback” to hear Nichols confirm his belief, not to believe in evolution.

Furthermore she added, ” I would have expected, quite frankly, that everyone in the legislature would have a firm belief in the science that we teach in schools, and certainly that I believe in.”

What science is that Premier Wynne?  You mean the “theory of evolution” is now the Science of Evolution?  Just because National Geographic says evolution happened doesn’t mean it did.

Is it now a prerequisite of seeking a seat in the Provincial Parliament that you belong to the vast majority of non-thinkers who say they believe in evolution!

Is it not possible to suggest that theory, not matter how plausible to some is still a THEORY?  Synonyms include conjecture,  speculation, assumption….even Einstein, whose theory of relativity has stood years of testing said if there is ONE mistake in my theory it is history, literally!  Last summer there was some speculation that his theory was toast but the speculation was premature.

And then someone said if evolution is proved what do we do about where all the subjects of evolution came from.  That gave rise to the incredible theory that the Universe came from nothing.

It was suggested by Lawrence M. Krauss that Quantum Mechanics may be the answer.  His theory was welcomed by many who felt that at last you could put God out of the equation.

One of the problems of course, his theory copied from several scientists before him violates the First Law of Thermodynamics.  That’s the law that  says nothing in the Universe(matter or energy)

can pop into existence from nothing.  The debates may never end and I must, so I will leave with two points.

For those who continue to struggle with where it all began remember these words:

“the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God…….for in six days the Lord created Heaven and Earth and the SEA and ALL that in them is and rested on the seventh day wherefore, he Blessed  the Sabbath Day, and hallowed it.”

And (2), for those who believe this statement and the rest of the Bible are the ravings of the deranged, writing mythological nonsense, try and get your evolutionary mind around the miracle called  the eyeball!

Help is on the way.

What the world needs is a………Xylitol

Xylitol could save your teeth!
So what is…Xylitol?
It’s a sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants. Similar in taste to regular sugar but with a significant difference—-the Xylitol molecule contains five carbon atoms rather than 6 found in most other sugars.
This molecular difference is the key to Xylitol’s beneficial qualities of taste and functionality.
Significant among the various benefits of Xylitol relate to chewing gum and toothpaste. Toothpaste needs Xylitol, and you need toothpaste with Xylitol and here’s why:
the larger molecule in Xylitol means bacteria cannot stick to your teeth as it does when using toothpaste with sugar. This difference is crucial to cavity prevention.
While fluoride is said to help prevent cavities and should be in everybody’s toothpaste, the sugar in the toothpaste must cancel a good deal of the fluoride advantage.
Dentists who stump for fluoride might agree with this!?
Melaleuca I believe is one of the first companies to use Xylitol in it’s tooth polish. I’ve been using Melaleuca’s tooth polish for just about a year and my visit to the dentist in January for a teeth cleaning served me with a couple of surprises: (1) my teeth were cleaner than they had been the last time I was in for a cleaning, time lapse of 12 months(missed my 6 month visit) and (2) my gums were stronger, and less prone to bleeding when encouraged to do so.
There was no hint of a cavity even though in my life BM(before Melaleuca) cavities caused me trouble continuously .
————–
If Xylitol was only good for toothpaste that would be a large positive but it is also excellent in the substitution of sugar in making muffins, pretty good in making cookies and I haver never tried it in bread.
Xylo-sweet, one of the several companies now marketing Xylitol, says Xylo-sweet can be substituted for most common sweeteners without compromising taste or texture and I have found this to be true although I used it to make Nutmeg-mousse and it didn’t work. In this case the Xylitol did not bind with the eggs and that was that!
But another Xylitol positive is one that will be cheered by more than even the tooth polish crowd….IT’s LACK of AFTER-TASTE! There is none! I’ve found every other sugar substitute I’ve ever tried Stevia, Aspartame,….going back to that dinosaur-Cyclamates came with after-taste.
But not Xylitol. And according to the sellers it is 25% lower in calories than regular sugars, but with the same sweetness. The substitution is 1.1.
——————-
Major problem to some is the cost.  Xylitol is expensive but that may help focus your attention on how much sugar you consume.
It’s all about cost versus benefits.

It is the best of all the non-sugar sweetners but without much of a CV to date although it is rapidly gaining wider acceptance.

NFL drops another…..

In a world dominated by Central bankers concerned about deflation who would have thought that a football player(Tom Brady) would be sent out to face the media to explain his involvement in what an Indianapolis Reporter claims is deflationary monkey business.
Monkey business engaged in by the New England Patriots. Naturally, Mr. Brady denied any knowledge of deflation as it relates to the footballs used in the game he and the Patriots played on Sunday last. In fact why wasn’t the equipment manager sent out to face the reporters. He would have first hand knowledge, wouldn’t he? BUT,
my first reaction to the deflation story, now categorized by some unimaginative reporter as Deflategate, which is probably called deflatengaten in Munich, was what’s the difference, both quarterbacks use the same ball. Well they don’t! I was totally unaware that each team is required to provide 12 footballs for their own use when they are on offense.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a dumber idea. Why would the NFL, a billion dollar monopoly put at risk the efficacy of a game on which millions of dollars are wagered by allowing the teams to provide the footballs which obviously are vulnerable to tampering! Even if there was no tampering in this case.
And this was not just another game it was a contest to decide half of the competition for the SUPERBOWL which everybody knows is THE sporting event of the American year.
Doesn’t the NFL have protocols in place that would ensure no equipment vulnerability. Obviously it does not but did you know that? I did not.
—————-
So what could be behind the story broken to the world by an obviously biased observer that NEW England played with footballs that were deflationary.
(A lark?) (revenge for the terrible beating endured by the Colts)(or perhaps a promotional gambit inspired by someone in the Commissioner’s office to help promote SuperBowl).

Whatever the outcome of this bit of deflationary news, it is much more interesting because the investigation of the balls in question rests with Roger Goodell and company, the NFL’s highest authority and an organization that seems to have an infinite capacity to fumble the ball.

We know one thing, the NFL couldn’t have created a more effective campaign to advertise the SUPERBOWL!

The hosed in this group are all Canadian

Today gasoline prices in 11(eleven) US states are a shade below $2 dollars a gallon.
In the Greater Toronto area the price per gallon of gasoline, if you’re buying the cheapest grade, is $4.20.
That’s (4 dollars and twenty cents) “at most GTA gas stations.”
Stations selling for less are independent of the 5 major oil companies that have been dictating the price all gasoline consumers pay
for years, costing us hundreds of millions of dollars.
Recently friends were visiting from Italy and as we drove along Lawrence Avenue shortly after they arrived both noticed the gas pricing anomaly at the same time, exclaiming in unison
“…..do ALL the stations charge the SAME price for gasoline?” “Why yes, Torontonians prefer it that way.” The visitors were incredulous!!
The idea that all major service stations, Shell, Esso, Husky, Petrocan and Sunoco in the GTA could getaway with the obvious fixing of gasoline prices, speaks volumes about the intelligence of the consumer of gasoline in the Greater Toronto area AND the competence of the Federal Anti-Competition Bureau(or whatever it’s called now) responsible for making sure things like this DON’T happen!
The lack of competition among Toronto’s oil companies has become part of the landscape. So much so that daily, Radio and Television stations proudly report the price of gasoline (tomorrow),
“at most GTA stations.” And of course the only BIG FIVE stations not selling at the pre-ordained price are those situated close to the Independent Stations that sell their gas at a few cents below the price set by the PIG FIVE! While the Combine restricts competition, it still remembers there is some competition for the gasoline dollar in Toronto but not much.
For instance I have to drive several kilometres if I want to buy my gasoline from a station not of the PIG FIVE. The restriction is obvious! The lack of competition, costs me that’s is a fact!
World oil prices have fallen about 60% since June. Under the watchful eyes of the PIG FIVE gasoline price in Toronto have fallen less than 40%.
How come? You know how come!
It drives me bonkers that people in Niagara-on-the-Lake or St.Catharines can slip across the border into New York state and buy gasoline for $2.00 a gallon instead of paying $4.20 cents a gallon on the way to NYS.
Of course the first thing GTA people will point out is that the US gallon is smaller and the Canadian dollar buys less.
You do the math. Imperial gallon versus the American gallon. In Toronto, the PIG FIVE charge 89.9 cents a litre, in Buffalo where competition rules, prices vary averaging 35 to 40 cents a litre.
It’s a tribute to the strength of the Oil monopoly that even as world prices have dropped precipitously, they have managed to keep GTA gasoline prices substantially higher.
It suggests Federal-provincial collusion with BIG OIL.
Toronto is the perfect place to pull off this kind of mischief because it’s citizens care more about the state of the Maple Leaf nation than they do about oil companies picking their pockets.

…..”Hello I’m Rob Ford and I’m here to apologize………..

The latest polls suggest Rob Ford, the embattled and politically challenged Mayor of Toronto is unlikely to win re-election but there is hope for

this troubled pol, his could be a new, profitable career in the relative new field of Apologistics.  To date he has made more apologies to more people for a variety of reasons than the last three mayors combined.

But these apologies could be the foundation of a new career.  Ford the Younger could develop into the best known, best paid apologist, of world reknown.

“………..Hello I’m Rob Ford and I’m here to apologize on behalf of BIG OIL to the thousands of Toronto motorists who have been

subjected for years to an obvious gas price fixing conspiracy that has cost them millions of dollars.  I also apologize on behalf of the Toronto media

that has been co-opted and now daily trumpets the cost of gasoline, “at most GTA stations-tomorrow.”

And while I’m at it I want to apologize of behalf of the Competition Bureau that has allowed the collusion to continue.

It’s always difficult to spot conspiratorial truth when you are deaf, dumb and blind.  I ought to know.

I’m Rob Ford and I’ll be back with another apology tomorrow.”

“…………………..Hello I’m Rob Ford and I would like to apologize to all Blue Jay baseball fans who have had to accept that the current manager  is not very good.”

——————

” Hello I’m Rob Ford and today I have been asked to apologize IN ADVANCE for the growing cost of the Pan-American games and the eventual budget shortfall

which means millions of dollars more will be needed to meet the final financial requirements.”    You see it developing!

The number of Rob Ford apologies grew by leaps and bounds as politicians, bureaucrats, Sport moguls, CEO’s etc…found paying Rob Ford to apologize on behalf of their profligate spending

and shoddy performances, made life a lot easier and seemed to deflect direct strident derision from the general public.

Some day APOLOGISTICS will be occupied by many but we will always remember that Rob Ford was a pioneer in the field.

And we will always remember those famous words, “Hello I’m Rob Ford and I’m here to apologize……………………….”
