…and you can fool all of the people some of the time……..

Call this a classic example of how to achieve irrelevance at the stroke of a pen! The so-called ‘supply and confidence‘ agreement between Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh is really an agreement to supply Trudeau with the confidence to take full control of his agenda. It’s the fulfilment of the vision that evaded him on September 30th, 2021. Wow, there is a fairy princess that rewards political scoundrels. Jagmeet Singh is the answer to Justin’s desire to run a country just like Chairman Xi does. Power is all Trudeau wants and now he has it. But what about his partner, the one that just turned his back on the 3 million, 36 thousand, 348 Canadians who voted for Singh and the party he was leading in the last election? What happens to 17.83% of the electorate that has just become a statistic? Read political refugees! Of course The Justin-Jagmeet agreement enunciates the motherhood issues. They include climate change, health care spending, economic growth and efforts to make life more affordable, issues espoused by New Democrats everywhere. But this agreement is designed for a leader and a follower. The nexus of the pact puts Trudeau in control of the legislative agenda for the next three years supported by Jagmeet Singh. Every vote of confidence, every budgetary initiative will be tabled by the leader and supported by the follower. Simple Simon meets the Pieman. Singh naively believes, “I will remain critical, we’re going to remain an opposition party.” No you won’t. You have been emasculated. It gets worse. Not only do the New Democrats have to support Trudeau on his confidence and monetary initiatives, but if the opposition brings forward what Trudeau considers a frivolous motion designed to interfere with his agenda, he will inform Singh this is now a matter of confidence and his group of emasculated MPs must support the government. Essentially you are looking at this picture, the people versus Justin Trudeau. It’s a reality of several situations; Erdogan in Turkey, Putin in Russia, Xi in China, Kim Jong-un in North Korea, to name a few. Canada’s government is now a “coalition of planning” in which the Prime Minister gets absolute support on legislation that absent the Singh-Trudeau hookup would be a Mission of the Impossible. The (supply & confidence) pact means every motion of non-confidence will be vaporized!
Grudgingly you have to admire Trudeau the lesser. In the space of seven years he has eliminated Harper, Scheer, O’Toole, and Mulcair without firing a shot. And now he has neutralized Singh, who might have been his most persistent critic while a prospective Conservative leader is months away from the debate. Justin Trudeau’s World Economic Forum patron Klaus Schwab will be very pleased.
